The Dyneema® grades engineered for sailing
Each grade in the Dyneema® fiber portfolio is precisely engineered to balance key performance parameters – from strength and stiffness to abrasion resistance and handing – ensuring that sailors, riggers, and rope manufacturers can select the right fiber for every application on board.
Built on a legacy of innovation, these product grades excel where it matters most: under load and in the harshest ocean environments. Whether the goal is ultra-high responsiveness for racing lines or near-zero permanent elongation for standing rigging, there is a Dyneema® grade designed for the task.
All Dyneema® fibers share the same foundation of safety and endurance, designed with outstanding fatigue resistance and abrasion resilience. But each grade offers a unique performance profile designed to optimize performance for specific sailing ropes.
Dyneema® SK78 fiber
The most popular Dyneema® grade for all-round running rigging. Its high tenacity and low-stretch characteristics provide precise and responsive control in running rigging lines.
Used in: Halyards, sheets, control lines, and mooring lines where low creep is valuable.
At the molecular level, our backward-integrated manufacturing process allows us to engineer built-in “chemical anchors” along each polymer chain. These anchors lock the structure in place, preventing lines from going slack under sustained load.
The result? Molecular precision at the core of our fiber translates directly into dimensional stability and reliable load control in the core of sailing lines – giving sailors consistent trim, predictable performance, and greater control on the water.
Dyneema® SK99 fiber
Dyneema® SK99 fiber is our latest innovation for high-performance sailing. Used on professional racing yachts, it has the highest tenacity and modulus of any grade in our sailing portfolio.
Used in: Halyards, mainsheets, and control lines (such as outhauls, vangs, and travelers). It is the best available ingredient fiber for highly responsive ropes that prioritize speed.
At the molecular level, we engineer longer, more aligned polymer chains. This creates a significantly stronger and stiffer fiber, allowing ropes to deliver higher load control with less stretch.
The result? Molecular engineering at the core of our fiber enables precise responsiveness in the core of sailing lines – helping sailors maintain tighter trim, make faster adjustments, and transfer power more efficiently across the vessel.
Dyneema® DM20 fiber
Designed for sailing applications under permanent static loads, Dyneema® DM20 fiber resists permanent elongation better than any Dyneema® grade.
Used in: Standing rigging, structural stays, backstays, and locked halyards.
At the molecular level, our backward-integrated manufacturing process allows us to create built-in “chemical anchors” along each polymer chain (substantially longer than Dyneema® SK78 fiber). These anchors lock the structure in place, even under sustained load.
The result? Molecular stability at the core of our fiber delivers long-term stability at the core of sailing lines – ensuring consistent standing rigging and extending the service life of lines during long-duration usage.
